Tentofie is absolutely correct-you will need a sweater/jacket in Sydney in may.

It gets a fair bit cooler in this month and the beaches reflect this, even Bondi!! Maximum daytime temperatures are on average 20deg celsius although it did reach 29C once in may in 1994. Overnight at the beginning of the month temps around 13-14C but by the end of the month are 11-12C. Sometimes a cold front will pass through and temperatures won't go above 16C but this will not last long. Look out for showers which can be heavy (especially over the Eastern suburbs) but there are still many days where there is not a cloud in the sky.

Yes it can get cold in May, around 16-18 degrees celcius. It always rains late april so expect it to probably be wet. I have found the first week of June is ALWAYS super windy. I remember it cos I always go away on the long weekend and there is always gale force winds blowing.

80% of maximum temperatures in May are between 16.2°C and 22.8°C. The highest ever maximum was 30°C in 1919 while the lowest was 11.3°C in 1904.

80% of minimum temperatures in May are between 8.5°C and 14.7°C with the lowest ever being 4.4°C in 1862. The median rainfall is 91mm on 13 days.

You will need a sweater and/or a jacket in May in Sydney but you won't need really cold weather clothing. Get an umbrella as well, it rains two days out of five.

Pooja, pack a sweater or a pullover. For me I found it quite mild compared to the part of the world I come from.
